Memorialized Account
A memorialized account preserves a deceased person's profile under a platform's special rules. It does not give relatives an ordinary login.

Definition
A memorialized account is a profile placed into a platform's designated state after the account holder dies. What remains visible, what can change and who can act depend on that platform. Memorialization is different from deleting the profile or transferring the account to a relative.
Why It Matters
For example, a family may want public memories to remain while ending normal account activity. Facebook's memorialized profiles cannot be logged into, and an appointed legacy contact has limited powers. Do not assume Instagram has the same contact arrangement.
Common Mistakes
- Do not treat memorialization as a complete backup, a grant of access to private messages or permission to publish everything you can see.
Safe Best Practices
- Record the exact profile URL and the person's wishes, preserve material you may lawfully keep, then use the provider's official memorialization or removal route. Resolve a family disagreement before an irreversible deletion.
